Comparative study of DSL tools.
An increasingly wide range of tools based on different approaches are being used to implement Domain Specific Languages (DSLs), yet there is little agreement as to which approach is, or approaches are, the most appropriate for any given problem. We believe this can in large part be explained by the lack of understanding within the DSL community. In this paper we aim to increase the understanding of the relative strengths and weaknesses of three approaches by implementing a common DSL case study. In addition, we present a comparative study of the three approaches
Separability in Cohomogeneity-2 Kerr-NUT-AdS Metrics
The remarkable and unexpected separability of the Hamilton-Jacobi and
Klein-Gordon equations in the background of a rotating four-dimensional black
hole played an important role in the construction of generalisations of the
Kerr metric, and in the uncovering of hidden symmetries associated with the
existence of Killing tensors. In this paper, we show that the Hamilton-Jacobi
and Klein-Gordon equations are separable in Kerr-AdS backgrounds in all
dimensions, if one specialises the rotation parameters so that the metrics have
cohomogeneity 2. Furthermore, we show that this property of separability
extends to the NUT generalisations of these cohomogeneity-2 black holes that we
obtained in a recent paper. In all these cases, we also construct the
associated irreducible rank-2 Killing tensor whose existence reflects the
hidden symmetry that leads to the separability. We also consider some
cohomogeneity-1 specialisations of the new Kerr-NUT-AdS metrics, showing how

Hydrocarbon chain conformation in an intercalated surfactant monolayer and bilayer
Cetyl trimethyl ammonium (CTA) ions have been confined within galleries of layered CdPS3 at two different grafting densities. Low grafting densities are obtained on direct intercalation of CTA ions into CdPS3 to give Cd0.93PS3(CTA)0.14. Intercalation occurs with a lattice expansion of 4.8 Å with the interlamellar surfactant ion lying flat forming a monolayer. Intercalation at higher grafting densities was effected by a two-step ion-exchange process to give Cd0.83PS3(CTA)0.34, with a lattice expansion of 26.5 Å. At higher grafting densities the interlamellar surfactant ions adopt a tilted bilayer structure. 13C NMR and orientation-dependent IR vibrational spectroscopy on single crystals have been used to probe the conformation and orientation of the methylene 'tail' of the intercalated surfactant in the two phases. In the monolayer phase, the confined methylene chain adopts an essentially all-trans conformation with most of the trans chain aligned parallel to the gallery walls. On lowering the temperature, molecular plane aligns parallel, so that the methylene chain lies flat, rigid and aligned to the confining surface. In the bilayer phase, most bonds in the methylene chain are in trans conformation. It is possible to identify specific conformational sequences containing a gauche bond, in the interior and termini of the intercalated methylene. These high energy conformers disappear on cooling leaving all fifteen methylene units of the intercalated cetyl trimethyl ammonium ion in trans conformational registry at 40 K
Particle Motion and Scalar Field Propagation in Myers-Perry Black Hole Spacetimes in All Dimensions
We study separability of the Hamilton-Jacobi and massive Klein-Gordon
equations in the general Myers-Perry black hole background in all dimensions.
Complete separation of both equations is carried out in cases when there are
two sets of equal black hole rotation parameters, which significantly enlarges
the rotational symmetry group. We explicitly construct a nontrivial irreducible
Killing tensor associated with the enlarged symmetry group which permits
separation. We also derive first-order equations of motion for particles in

Internal stress affecting environmental fatigue of 7075-T651 alloy
Load history has been known to affect fracture and stress corrosion behavior. The degree to which it affects depends on the severity of the load history. It is known that shop peening can retard the SCC lives markedly in steels. Similarly, prestraining can reduce the KIscc and plateau velocity in high strength steels.
These types of experiments are difficult to quantify their effects on the SCC behavior. One can analyze the prestarining effects in a better way by analyzing the effects of single overloads followed by constant applied load to study the behavior. Such experiments can be done by observing the ‘incubation time’ for a crack to initiate in a fatigue pre-cracked sample, at various constant applied loads in a chemical environment. Such experiments have been conducted on a 7075 aluminum alloy for both static and cyclic loads. It is observed that results are similar in behavior. The data indicates the overall behavior can be analyzed by suggesting that the total stress at the crack tip is related to the contributions from chemistry of the environment and an additional factor from “internal stress” that comes from pre-strain. Hence, we can describe the crack initiation & growth criteria in terms of:

Such trends in the behavior, has been observed in pre-strained steel alloys prior to environmental exposure. The general behavior suggests that the internal stress affects the threshold KIscc more than the plateau velocity. The general SCC behavior is affected by both chemistry and internal stress under external static or cyclic loads
A Killing tensor for higher dimensional Kerr-AdS black holes with NUT charge
In this paper, we study the recently discovered family of higher dimensional
Kerr-AdS black holes with an extra NUT-like parameter. We show that the inverse
metric is additively separable after multiplication by a simple function. This
allows us to separate the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, showing that geodesic
motion is integrable on this background. The separation of the Hamilton-Jacobi
equation is intimately linked to the existence of an irreducible Killing
tensor, which provides an extra constant of motion. We also demonstrate that

Association of variable number of tandem repeats polymorphism in the IL-4 gene with end-stage renal disease in Malaysian patients.
Variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) polymorphism in the interleukin 4 (IL-4) gene has been associated with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) subjects in many different populations, although with conflicting results. We determined the 70 bp of VNTR polymorphism at intron 3 of the IL-4 gene in Malaysian ESRD subjects. Buccal cells were collected from 160 case and 160 control subjects; genomic DNA was amplified using PCR, followed by agarose gel electrophoresis. There were significant differences in genotypes and alleles of the IL-4 gene. We conclude that VNTR polymorphism of the IL-4 gene is a risk factor for the development of ESRD among Malaysians
Conditional preparation of states containing a definite number of photons
A technique for conditionally creating single- or multimode photon-number
states is analyzed using Bayesian theory. We consider the heralded N-photon
states created from the photons produced by an unseeded optical parametric
amplifier when the heralding detector is the time-multiplexed
photon-number-resolving detector recently demonstrated by Fitch, et al. [Phys.
Rev. A 68, 043814 (2003).] and simultaneously by Achilles, et al. [Opt. Lett.
28, 2387 (2003).]. We find that even with significant loss in the heralding
detector, fields with sub-Poissonian photon-number distributions can be
created. We also show that heralded multimode fields created using this
